The Future of Video Games

The Nintendo company plans to launch a new gaming system, the first system that is designed to allow non-gamers the chance to play video games. This new system called the Wii will allow an person with reasonable motor skills and a TV to take a chance at video games. This follows last years success by Nintendo with the DS portable console which has been seen as rejuvenating tool in the gaming community. Now with the Wii poised to launch in early November it will be interesting to see if a new community of gamers will come about. Nintendo's President says that the system will do far better than Sony's Playstation or Microsoft's Xbox 360 because the games are easier and simpler to play. The simplicity of the controllers and the games along with other features will in Nintendo's opinion bring people back to gaming. Do you think that a game console should be designed for realism or for playability? Will you purchase a new game system if the games appear to be easier to play?

I always enjoyed video games because of their strive for realism. I enjoy the realism of the games because that makes them more exciting and interesting. Sure I have never been good at them but with three brothers I perfer the realism to playability. When you must watch they are more interesting. Personally I believe the games should be challenging so I would perfer the realism games and would purchase the realism systems.

I use to play video games when I was younger. The appeal to me was not the difficulty level of the game, it was how enjoyable I found the game. As I got older, I lost interest in video games, but will every once in a while sit down and play if my friends are playing. I know a lot of college students that still play video games on a constant basis, and have a hard time pulling themselves away from the television. Nintendo’s idea would probably sell to those that still play video games, but I doubt I would purchase a new gaming system, just because it seemed easier to play. I want a game that offers a challenge, yet at the same time, is enjoyable to play. Violent video games and other fighting associated games have no appeal to me, so it would just depend on the types of games Nintendo would offer. Also, because of their new idea, I’m sure Nintendo’s new games would not be cheap. Price would also be another factor I would highly consider before investing in video games.

I like the idea, but they will not do better that playstation or Xbox. I also do not believe that this will bring out new gamers.

Nintendo is in a competitive market and it is a good thought and approach to try to allure and target consumers that usually do not play games. Though I don't really think what Nintendo is doing is going to help them much to increase their profits, or at least their hope to get new consumers. I understand the idea of creating a game which is easier to play might allure more customers, but it only targets people who don’t play games because they believe it is too hard. As a non-game player myself, playability or difficulty of the game is not the reason to why I don’t play games, and I think there are a lot of consumers out there who fall in the category I am in. Many consumers who choose not to play games do so perhaps because they have other things they rather do than play games. Overall I think that Nintendo is taking a chance by making this new game of playability, because most of the consumers of Nintendo or any type of game are people who are game loving and want the challenge rather than easiness.

This new game system will appeal to a different kind of gamer than playstation and xbox. The people that that will be interested in a game system like this would be much younger than those that play playstation and xbox because it will be much easier to play. Since it will be easier to play i doubt the gamers now will change to this system. A lot of the Gamers that play playstation and xbox like the games because they are . challenging.

I do not think that an easier gaming system will appeal to anyone. Kids are growing up with challenging video games now and it seems every one of them is good at playing them. Many kids think that video games are too easy and wish that there was more of a challenge. I don't think there is any way that an easier gaming system will do better than the Xbox or a Sony Playstation.
