Unreasonable Christmas Gifts?

Neiman Marcus recently released it's 2006 holidy catelog, and let me tell you, these gift ideas are completely outrageous. How often to do you spend $1.7 MILLION dollars on a gift? This year, one of the many gifts presented is a 63 mile from earth, space ride. This trip holds six passengers, and upon their return they receive an all inclusive four night stay on Virgin Chairman Richard Branson's British Virgin Island retreat.

Another of these outrageous gifts include a sports fanatics' package deal. This gift includes six tickets to large-scale sporting events, including Super Bowl XLI and dinner with many celebrity athletes as well. The cost starts at $250,000 and is auctioned to Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation.

How far is too far when it comes to Christmas presents? I don't know about you, but "wow" is the only response I have to this topic.

"WOW" is the perfect word to describe it. Each year Christmas gets more expensive, parents compete with other parents on how much they spend for their children. Even though it would be great to go to the Super Bowl XLI, $250,000 is too much for a christmas gift. Christmas is losing its real meaning.

I agree with Jennifer I feel like Christmas is losing it's real meaning. I miss spending time with the family around the christmas tree not out trying to get the best and most expensive gift of all. I don't believe in material Christmas and I am also not religious so Christmas is just an other holiday to me. I will make a bigger deal out of my kids' birthdays than Christmas because I am not religious. I think that the world has forgotten what Christmas is really about.

I think it just depends on the gift. Like the sports package goes to charity, so I feel you can never spend too much...however I agree that a space trip is a little excessive.

I guess Santa has a lot of money. That gift is outrageous, but if they are willing to spend the money then let them. They earned it.

I personally do not have a problem with Christmas gifts that are that expensive. There are a lot more people then you think in this world with that kind of money. I actually think those gifts that were listed are pretty cool. If my salary was as much as McJager's, I would probably purchase one of those gifts.

I think that those gifts are really cool, but are not necessary to make a "good Christmas". To me its not how much money you spend on a gift, its the thought that counts. Those extremely expensive gifts are good for rich people to buy, but someone not as wealthy would be just as happy getting a pair of shoes or a barbie doll for Christmas.
