Change for money orr reputation?

Kobe Bryant is one of the most popular basketball players in the NBA today, even after his rape trial. After the trial and what many considered a selfish season were he scored a lot of points but the L.A. Lakers lost games. According to an article on espn.com Bryant's popularity is starting to return to the level it was when the Lakers were winning championships. He says the number change is because it the number he wore in high school, but I think it is to make more money and bring attention to himself this pre-season, and not the type of attention he recieved after his rape trial.

I think that Kobe is just changing his number to get away from his old selfish image. Even with a number change the same number 8 will still be on the court scoring 50 points a game.

Despite the rape trial, there is still a huge market, both in LA and around the world, for Kobe jersey's. Dedicated Kobe fans will now be forced to buy another jersey with his new number to be in this season, and in season's in the future. So yes, there could definitely be financial thoughts going through Kobe's head. However, I think that maybe a number change will help him to leave who he was in the past behind him. I believe Kobe is sorry for his mistake in the past, and the number change is simply another way for him to try and leave it all in the past and move on. Still though, no matter what he changes his number to, Lebron will always be better.....GO CAVS!!!
