New WWF Star
Very recently a group of researchers in Borneo discovered a previously unknown mammal carnivore in the deep rain forest. This new discovery is just another example of the numerous mysteries that lie in the vast forests of the world. These forests are often threatened by deforestation efforts. As in any economic analysis the costs and benefits of a plan are measured to decide whether or not the plan is a good idea. Land use debates often are hard to decide on due to the lack of actual value to be placed on a forest. This discovery is just one more reason to protect the forests worldwide before the unknown benefits are destroyed in order to profit right now.

These new plans to make houses, roads and other man-made items by cutting into the rainforest are very detrimental. The rainforest could potentially hold cures to diseases and as mentioned in the text, scientist has found a new species. Putting houses and roads into the rainforest creates more people that make more pollution. Destroying the rainforest could have serious repercussions in the long run.
It is very important to protect the worlds natural resources. Why is it so important that they use that specific land for housing or factories? If a forest is cut down for things such as this we will cease to find such things as this new carnivore, we know very little of what lurks in the bushes, and if destroyed we may never know what is there.
The land or forests used to make these man made housings, roads, or factories are often ripped apart and wasted. The equlibrium of animals, plants, human beings, and opened land is beginning to be thrown way off track. But as more and more generations pass, the land has to house more people. This land, no matter how important, will be used and stripped of it's important resources. It's a tough situation to use up all this land that houses many animals and plants, but the human race is rapidly increasing, causing the increase in need for this land.
I think that is interesting...and while it is nice to know that there are unknown creatures out in the forests..do we really want creatures walking around that are unknown? They could be harmful, and we may not know what they are capable of. I think that the land is needed because there are so many people in the world..so use the land.
The rain forests clearly have tons of benefical uses that outweigh the benefits of tearing it down to build houses and developments. There are so many other places in the world to start new life, and at such a lower trade-off. There are so many things that we do not know yet, and new species are found everyday in the rain forest. Until we get to the point that we know there is nothing left out there for us to benefit from, there is no need to rush to tear such an important thing down. In the long run we could find something very beneficial to us that is only indiginous to the rain forest, such as a cure for a disease.
