Cars that drive themselves?
Ever wonder what it would be like just to sit in your car and not have to drive? Well it is estimated that within the next 20 years, this will be possible. We are getting close in technology where all you will have to do is put your key in the ignition and press the address of where you want to go, and the car will drive there on its own. This brings up the concern if it is safe, they would have to install wires in the roads in order for this to happen, what if something goes wrong with the one of the wires in the middle of driving? What happens as far as shifting lanes and the people who do not get these cars, yet drive on their own still? This article says that with this new technology, accident rates will go down, I am not so sure if I agree. What are your thoughts?

I personally think that this idea of self driving cars is crazy. Wires get messed up all the time and to place our lives in the trust that these wires will be ok and everything will be safe is asking a lot of us. While the wires tell the car how to get to the desired address, do they know when the car in front of them is slowing down? Will these wires also have the knowledge to be able to tell if there is a stop sign or if it is safe to leave a stop sign?
All of Zenny's concerns are very appropriate. For those of us that fear roller coasters, this is a day that won't be looked forward to. Would this system be efficient? People once believed that by the year 2000, we'd all be flying to work like the Jetsons. This is not the case. Speculation of the progress of this technology is great for conversation, but is it really realistic?
It may not be realistic, but I think that a lot of the concerns posed are, well, frivolous. We all depend on wires every day. Even if you don't ride roller coasters, even if you go to get your wisdom teeth removed, they are going to depend on technology to keep you alive while you are under anasthesia. Not to mention the fact that, according to the article, they already do this with planes. Also according to the article, much of this technology already exists, making it very feasible to talk about now.
