The Sale of PS3 Is Not Enjoying Market Equilibrium.

The most expected console PlayStation 3 has been released for a couple months and it has been estimated by Sony that the target shipments of PS3 would be two million by the end of 2006. However, to Sony’s disappointment and surprise, there has been a “slip behind the schedule”. The main reason for the delay is said to be the sudden release of Wii console, a lot cheaper than PS3, which also from a Japanese rival Nintendo Co. Besides, the lack of game software for PS3 has Despite of this, Sony still shows great confidence in the coming sale of PS3. In this case, the seller is struggling in the situation that is there are not enough purchasers for their products. They must find a way to boost their selling in another words to make them better off. “ An economic situation is in equilibrium when no individual would be better off doing something different”.

In today's world, there are so many different types of video game counsels to choose from. Almost every year, a new counsel is invented or updated. Each company has to compete with the others to boost their own sales. It is no wonder that Nintendo's Wii is selling more than Sony's PS3 because of its lower prices. These game counsels are always the most anticipated products to come out and everyone fights over them. Only those with the cheapest prices sell the most.

In my opinion, Playstation 3 was doomed from the get-go. The system has virtually the same gaming capabilities as the Xbox 360, as well as nearly the same graphics. (Oh by the way, the 360 is around $200-300 cheaper) Furthermore, you have the suprisingly popular Wii on the market as well at a much cheaper price. You couple the PS3's price along with the shortage in games being offered as the main reasons why Ps3 is not selling as well as Sony would have liked.

I have to agree with what Jordan says above about the PS3 being doomed. Not only is it very comparable to the Xbox 360, the 360 was released a year prior to the Playstation. I would imagine that it would be very difficult for Sony to sell something so comparable to another item that is already on the market that is being sold at a much lower price. Also when the PS3 was released, there were relatively few game offerings. If I was looking to buy a game console and comparing the PS3 and Xbox, this would be a substantial influence in my decision. While the PS3 has had a slow start, once more games are offered and the price reduced, it may begin selling closer to Sony's expectations.

I believe Sony will be alright in the long run and will continue to sell more PS3's. I feel that the Wii is selling now because it's something new and different, and people want to try it out. However, I feel the great graphics and gameplay of the PS3 will outweigh the new Wii and it Sony will be fine.
