5% of the world's population vs 45%of the world's automotive CO2 emissions

How can a country only have 5 % world's population, but have nearly half of warld's automotive carbon dioxide emissions? Read this article you will know it.
According from the article "Big Three Cars Emit 230 Million Tons of Greenhouse Gas" from Planet Ark.com the big 3 car company,"General Motors vehicles gave off 99 million metric tons or 31 percent of the total; Ford vehicles emitted 80 million metric tons or 25 percent and DaimlerChrysler vehicles emitted 51 million metric tons or 16 percent, according to the report. By comparison, the largest US electric utility, American Electric Power, had emissions of 41 million metric tons." Then people know how much Greenhouse gas emisions by American cars, but why American cars can emission half of the world's automotive carbon dioxide???
In my opinion there are 2 major reason. First the size of car in US is XXXL. In America you will see truck made by GM,Ford and Toyota everywhere, but in Europe you will never see it. Second the price of car in US is low, maybe somebody always say the car is expensive, but one American family may have more than 2 cars, and second hand car is really cheap
The spending habits of American made this happened. Right now the price of gas is in a high level, it will made people do not like to driver big car, because the car is drinking gas. Driver to class? Why not driver a small car, do not driver truck!!
Greenhouse gas is dangerous, do not let Globe Warming continue!!! Save your money, and it also SVAE OUR PLANET.

I completely agree with this post. We as America, are actually quite selfish when it comes to saving our planet. Yes, we are more aware of the safety of our evironment than others, but we are also harder on it than others. Is it fair of us to drive such big, unnecessary vehicles when Europe has such small cars. Italy's Smart Cars are probably half the size as one of our normal cars. Now this might be more dangerous because of lack of protection, but before making this decision, I think we should first take a look at the statistics of accidents and deaths in Europe as opposed to the US.

I agree to a certian extent that americans are sole blame of "killing" our planet. Driving big unnecessary vehicles is really not that bad of an idea. Take for instance, if you have a newly developed family with 2 very young children, which car would u want to protect them, a small metro that barley fits four or a nice SUV so that if you smashed into or vise-versa that your children will be more safe than in a small vehicle. I am going to take this question and remarks a little further and talk about car accidents in Europe and the US. I do agree although that we need to worry about car emissions a little more to bring down the %, but i believe that car manufactors are trying to achieve this!

For responds Derek Thomas: The Big cars like SUV or small truck are easly to happens traffic accidents. But in an accidents big cars are more safer than a small car, but you should know big cars are more easy to happend accident. The world's most safty car is VOLVO's saloon car not Ford's truck!!
