NHL Cancels Season

A surprise decision to cancel the hockey season was annoucned today. Obviously, I was being sarcastic in the above sentence. After a five and a half month lockout, the player's union and owners are in the exact spot where they started; miles apart. The sticking point was the linkage of player salaries to revenue. Basically the owners want to cover themselves so they do not overspend and the players do not want to take a pay cut from the $1.8 million average salary they made last year. In the end owners save money and the players just get to go and play in their respected countries. These individuals are forgetting who gets hurt in the end; the fans and average Joe Smoe that works for the organizations. Fans do not get to root on their favorite teams and the workers do not get paid money. I know that some teams have tried to find their workers other means of employment, but these people now have to struggle until the owners and players decide to agree. So my question is this, do our athletes these days care more about the money or the game? And if you are a fan how do you feel about not getting to enjoy an NHL game this year and will it dictate when you decide to go back and support your team at a game?
