National Debt Clock

I found this interesting site that explains the national debt and how it has been growing. It is almost up to 9 trillion dollars. That seems like a ton of money. I wonder what the continued rise in the national debt will result in. What will be the consequences if this trend continues? I can't answer these questions but the number and the rising trend concerns me. I can't imagine how continually increasing the national debt could be good.

I agree that the national debt is a huge concern to almost all Americans. The government has tried different tactics to help lower it such as raising taxes. However, the debt continues to increase every minute. Because this is such an important issue, all of presidential candidates for the 2008 election are coming up with their own means of solving it. I wish them luck!

Now what is the actual effect of the national debt on our nation? We obviously keep spending money as a nation somehow...where does the money come from if it's not going to paying off our debt?

I agree that our nation should try and increase the our revenue instead of decrease our revenue. Our country should be trying to gain money instead of spending money.

Glenn, your post is an example of a macroeconomic topic. Since this is a microeconomic course, I would rather have you focus on micro topics. Save this topic for Econ 212. By the way, why is debt a bad thing? Are you suggesting that people should never go into debt to finance a house or a college education?
