Beckham will be Profitable

Even though David Beckham is getting paid 250 millions dollars he will still bring much more than that to America. The highest paid player right now in the MLS (Major League Soccer) is Freddie Adu who is 17 and he is getting half a million dollars. David Beckham is coming to America and he is going to make soccer well known in America. By Beckham coming other international superstars will follow in the next years. So you see we will gain spectators and host more tournaments which will bring high profits for soccer clubs in America. So not only does Beckham cost a lot but he will bring a lot more into America otherwise we wouldnt have signed him for 250 million dollars!

I think there is another opportunity cost that we should consider about seriously. Beckham made this decision to earn more money, but he forwent a chance to train himself in a better situation (Real Madrid). Therefore, his good feeling and ability of soccer might be lost. If he cannot do better or just equally good in next World Cup, his potential income will possibly go down.

I think it is ridiculous that the MLS is willing to pay 250 million dollars for one player when the highest paid soccer player now has not even hit the 1 million dollar mark. To me, this is a huge waste of money. Sure, it brings attention to soccer in America and there are many benefits. However, Beckham is making more money in one year than all other professional soccer players put together! This really irks me because professional athletes make more money in one year than the average working class makes in their lifetime. It would make more sense for professional athletes to get paid less and the working class, who actually provide services and goods used in every day life to get increased pay. I believe that the working class works harder to earn a living and actually survive than any professional athlete. To blue collar workers, it is a decision on whether or not to fix their 1998 Ford Taurus or pay for their children's braces; yet for Beckham, it is a decision on whether or not to purchase a 2007 Bentley or buy his wife a pair of $3,000 shoes that she will wear only once, or buy them both. The average person does not have that kind of luxury.

I think it's depends. He will definitely bring lots of benefits to America's soccer situation. However, it can not last for a long time. If Beckham can not reach his potencial in America, he may lose his job and and exchange to another team which his income may decrease. Furthermore, he will also lose his fans and spectators, and that will not bring more benefits.

I think this is such a good profit for the usa. One because think of all the money we waste on the NFL and NBA so finally the MLS gets their recognition. SO they can pay 250 million dollars which would bring more money into the US because of the fact that more merchandise will be sold. T-Shirts, hats, soccer balls, bags, shoes all of them will go now that beckham has entered the USA. He is already the number one supplier for selling shoes and the number one player in the world. Also this will attract other international soccer stars like Zidene Zidane(capt. of the french) to come to America. SO this is very wealthy for not only Beckham who took a huge pay cut to get here but for the US as well. So I agree with this comment in general
