Online Poker: Ban it or Tax it?

In an article by the San Francisco Chronicle we're informed that nearly 70 million people in the United States use the online gaming world to play poker and connect with millions from their own home. Now Congress wants to pass a law to ban online poker and make it illegal. However there will be exceptions for online betting on horses and some state lotteries. There are poker player alliances forming now to help fight Congress and prevent this law from passing. I feel that Congress should allow people to spend their money how they choose to and with the amount of money that passes through online poker daily if they were to begin taxing it then it could lead to great gains in the American economy.

I agree with Jordan. It doesn't matter if they tax it, because then it will be the same as playing at a casino. But I think it would be ridiculous to ban it. If we can manage our lives with the internet, paying bills, communicating with people, purchasing items from stores, why couldn't we play poker or other forms of gambling online? Where's the harm in allowing it? How is it different from actually phsycally playing the game? If the government sees a harm in it shouldn't they see a harm in real gambling? You would think that that would be the top concern, not the petty online gambling.

Online poker is causing no harm to anyone, so why should it be banned. If the government wants to ban online poker then they should have to ban the other hundred of online gambling games. I disagree with the fact that the government has the right ot tax online poker as well to because yeah we will have money to spend elsewhere in our economy but we will have a cut in entertainment as well. Think about it half of the people we see on television playing professional poker have been training or founded online. Like Chris Moneymaker who won over five million dollars at the world series of poker. SO you see if we ban online gambling or tax it we will have to ban our entertainment and have to ban some of the various things we do for fun
