Apple Milestone:100 million Ipods sold.

Roughly about seven years ago, Apple was struggling to stay a float they were trying everything just to stay competitive and now they found their niche. It has been announced that the Apple IPod has sold 100 million devices and over millions of songs have been download. What has made Apple so successful, a few ideas, are that they have a nice clean look and easy to use buttons "the click wheel", their Itunes has the same clean look and is designed to be used with the IPod. Unlike most MP3 players that are difficult to understand and have programs that are by different companies that have to be made compatible for the player. This is also something that has been able to hit ever generation and is allowed for a media shift in how we listen to music. This has made the music industry struggle with this ripple effect. Granted it has helped with piracy laws but the record companies still struggle to sell CD's which are quickly become a thing of the past. And now that we can play movies and tv shows on these devices how do you think it will effect that industry.

The Apple iPod has become almost a necessity with today's society. It is a very good product which many people find different uses for. You cannot walk down the mall of Marietta College without seeing someone with an iPod in their ears. It is good that the iPod has channeled consumers into buying iTunes, rather than downloading music off of illegal websites.

The Ipod is a hot item among most people anymore. Apple has done a very good job boosting their business by creating other device that are compatible and can be used with their Ipods. Apple also does a great thing for themselves by making the music available online to be bought. They are smart in the fact that the keep all of their users in one place to buy all of their needs from them. CD’s are becoming a part of the past and it is just something that will have to be dealt with. People are also now able to buy movies and games online. I feel that Apple is going in the right direction and making a great business for themselves in Ipods.

I think that eventually, Apple and it's unique technology will take over the computer industry. There are so many things that makes their products so much better and easier to use, especially when they all fit together and are compatable. As far as the music and movie industry goes, I agree that CD's, DVD's, and even TV will become old technology soon. It has been a slow process, but our world has been converting over to these newer technologies for years now. It's just a matter of time now before an iPod, for example, is all we need. We won't need the music or movie industries anymore. So why don'tthose industries just stop making CD's and DVD's and start selling everything on iTunes, or other programs? It will need to be a gradual process so everyone can catch up, but isn't that where we are heading?

Ever since downloading programs such as napster and limewire have hit the internet, the music industry has taken a great fall. I really don't think that the music industry will ever recover if they keep selling CD's because nobody really cares to buy them anymore. People would rather just buy the CD off of itunes for the same price or even cheaper. If they don't feel like paying then they'll just download it illegally. I still think the movie and show industry will be fine as people prefer watching that type of media on a 60 inch high definition flat screen rather than a 4 inch wide IPod. Honestly the only way I can see the music industry ever rebounding is to stop selling CD's, and find a way so that they can make more profit on the internet. Mabye have people purchase them on the bands website or make a deal with someone like apple so they can get more profit when people buy off of ITunes. In the end, as technology grows, items such as CD's become worthless to Americans and in the future I can only see people wanting the newer ways of purchasing media such as ITunes.

The technology industry as grown incredibly in the last two decades. We went from computers to cell phones with the same technology, one fits in your pocket and one doesn't. The same with Ipods. First it was a record player than the infamous 8-tracks, cassettes, CD's and now MP3's. Although Apple might be booming right now I don't think that it will last forever. There will be another invention within the next decade most likely that will make the Ipod a thing of the past. As far as the Video and Television industry's go, I do not think that they will be greatly affected by the Ipod. The Ipod was created specifically for music. Television shows can not yet be broadcasted on them and even if they could part of what makes the television industry so entertaining is the fact that you can gather around, relax and find enjoyment. You will not see family's sitting down after dinner and watching an Ipod, or friend on a Friday night watching a movie by Ipod, sports fans will want to see a better picture than a 4 inch screen. Ipods might be the hot item now but give it time and it will change. As far as Television and Video go, the Ipod will not hurt them as much as it has Music.

I think that the industry will continue to make a lot of profit because ipods are currently high in demand and an increase in technology, allowing these devices to play movies and tv shows will make the demand even higher. Although the company will be losing money because their revenue will decrease in CD sales I think that the profit made from ipod sales will make up for their loss. Overall, I think that with the increased technology allowing us to play movies and tv shows on these devices the company will continue to see a rise in profit.

I believe the loss of revenue in the CD industry will be equaled out by programs like iTunes that seem to be in control of the market right now. The increased technology is making things more convenient and simple for consumers in regards to iPods, which is what American's seem to want in this fast paced society. The market and available technology will continue to grow over the next century, and the fad revolving around iPods and similar devices. CD's and iPods will both become a thing of the past eventually. But recently, this new technology iPods are based on is causing the demand curve to shift to the right. People are willing to pay more for convienience, simplicty, and entertainment.

Apple is one of the most ingenious companies out there. The author is right, Apple has such an advantage over competitors because of how simple, but diverse the iPod is. It is so simple to use along with downloading iTunes. Other competitor products are often difficult to understand. I think within a decade MP3 players are going to take over sales. CD's are going to become a thing of the past like tapes and records. When you think about it, how many different products does Apple have that make the iPod compatible to your car and/or house? These are the 2 main places you listen to music and usually don't wear headphones attached to an iPod. From car adapters, to portable speakers, to clocks, the iPod can be everywhere you are. Why keep buying CDs when you can have music anywhere you want, whenever you want?

The IPod was a great product for Apple. It kept the company from going under. The product is a perfect tool for younger buyers & its easy enough for the older market to use it.In this day & age it's very hard to find one product that many different ages of people can use. The commericals are catchy & seem to help the product.
