Why America only ranked 37 in WHO's evaluation about Overall medical performance?
“In 2000 the World Health Organization (WHO) released a report ranking the health care system of the world’s 191 countries. The first attempt of this kind, the report attracted a great deal of media attention and surprised many health experts in its finding. The WHO ranking were based on five composite indicators:(1): the overall level of health of the population, (2) health inequality within the population, (3); health system responsiveness, (4) the distribution of responsiveness to measure , and (5): how fairly the financial burden is shared across different socioeconomic groups.”
“Overall, the French health care system was rated number 1.” However, the United State only ranked 37. “The top spots were filled by countries that usually don’t come to mind in discussions of the world’s best health care systems: ‘Italy, Spain, Oman, and Austria.’” ( James W. Henderson, Health economics and Policy, P385)
Logically, since America has the most advanced technology and service system, it should has the best overall performance. Why America merely ranked 37? Can you think of some explanations?
